KAWARTHA LAKES-Prinicpal Darla McQuarrie says having a new backpack helps build the excitement of coming back to school.
“They will help alleviate the stress that parents may have in collecting school supplies and having a new backpack is such a treat. It’s awesome” said McQuarrie, Principal, King Albert Public School in Lindsay.
McQuarrie was one of several community members who gathered at the Trillium Lakelands District School Board office in Lindsay today for the donation of 75 backpacks. King Albert will receive 20 backpacks, Queen Victoria PS 20, Alexandra PS 15 and Parkview PS 10.
The donation was made by the revamped Rotary Club of Lindsay. Each backpack donated has a new water bottle inside as well as a bag of school supplies.
“We are rebuilding the club” President Rizzan Delos Santos told Kawartha 411 News. “Someone mentioned this was a need in the schools so we thought it was a great initiative to start our rebuild”
The Rotary Club of Lindsay has been helping local residents for 104 years. Delos Santos says the club was almost dissolved last year due to lower numbers of volunteers and a lack of clarity on the groups mission, but people stepped up and are breathing new life into the organization.
Members are now focusing on the future with Rotary Fest planned for September and Hearts in Harmony in February as well as making 200 comfort packs with non-perishable food items and blankets for community members in need. They are also looking at growing their membership.
