KAWARTHA LAKES-Lakelands Public Health and the Peterborough Humane Society are excited to be partnering to bring a reduced-cost rabies clinic to the North Kawartha Community Centre this Spring.
“The cost of vaccines is often cited as a barrier to vaccinating pets,” said Dr. Piggott, Medical Officer of Health for Lakelands Public Health, “so, this reduced cost clinic will serve as an opportunity to protect our community’s pets, the families that love them, and from a public health perspective, prevent diseases that could transmit to humans.”
According to the Peterborough Humane Society CEO Shawn Morey, clinics like these are a real priority.
“At PHS, we’re committed to reducing barriers to pet care,” said Morey. “Partnering with Lakelands Public Health on this clinic is a meaningful way to support both ends of the leash and keep our community safe.”
Clinic Details: Date: Friday, May 8th, 2026 Time: 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Location: North Kawartha Community Centre (340 McFadden Rd., Apsley)
Cost: $40 per pet
When attending the clinic, dogs must be leashed and cats must be in carriers or otherwise restrained.

Another local agency, the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society, is offering a low-cost rabies vaccine and microchip clinic taking place later this spring. Clinic Details:
Date: Saturday, May 30, 2026 Time: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Location: Lakefield Animal Welfare Society, 2887 Lakefield Rd, Selwyn
Cost: $40 per item, $60 for both In Ontario, Regulation 567 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, notes that all cats and dogs must be vaccinated against rabies at 3 months old and remain up-to-date with regular vaccination for the duration of their life.
