Two Wildfires In Kawartha Lakes Still Not Under Control

KAWARTHA LAKES-Fire crews continue to respond to wildland fire Haliburton 19 (HAL019) located west of CR 49, south of CR 121 & north of Bury’s Green, near Burnt River.

HAL019 is currently 27 hectares and is not under control. Crews have successfully “tied in” the fire, meaning they have established a continuous and secure perimeter around it using suppression methods such as hose lines, constructed fireguards, or natural features like rivers or shorelines. Officials say this containment line is designed to stop the fire from advancing further. MNR is responding with assistance from Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service.
Kirkfield area fire (OFR001) – 33.5 hectares. Began Aug 11, located east of Prospect Rd & north of Eldon Station Rd. Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service is receiving assistance from MNR in fighting this fire. The fire is considered not under control.
HAL016 near Norland is under control with 4.5 hectares burned so far.

With waterbombers active in the region, the public is reminded to stay clear of wildland fire operations. Please stay close to shores to allow crews to operate safety.

A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) is in effect in the area of wildland fires Haliburton 18,19 (HAL018, HAL019) and Outside Fire Region 1 (OFR001).
This is over and above the standard airspace restrictions imposed by Section 601.15 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) which state that the airspace around all active forest fires is restricted to forest fire suppression aircraft only, specifically airspace within 5 nautical miles, up to an altitude of 3000 feet above ground level. A NOTAM does not need to be issued for this airspace restriction to be in effect.
In accordance with CAR 601.16, however, Transport Canada may issue a NOTAM to restrict the airspace further around a forest fire. Pilots are reminded to check NOTAMs before flying near forest fires.
Road Closures
• CR 49 CLOSED (CR 121Bury’s Green)
• Prospect Rd CLOSED (S of 1304 and 1375 Prospect Road)
