Canadian Tire Employee Receives Certificate Of Courage For Helping To Save Customer In Medical Distress

KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha Lakes Police Service Inspector Deb Hagarty attended a special ceremony held at paramedic headquarters recognizing Emma Lees for her heroic actions in April 2025.

Police say while working at Canadian Tire in Lindsay, Emma noticed a customer in medical distress. Without hesitation, she accessed the public defibrillator and used it on a woman in cardiac arrest. Thanks to her quick thinking and the swift response of the paramedic crew, a life was saved that day.
Emma, along with the three paramedics who attended the scene, received the Certificate of Courage Award, presented by Chief Sarah Johnston and Deputy Chief Jamie Golden of Kawartha Paramedic Services.
Emma was nominated by KLPS Constable Vollmar, who was also on scene and witnessed her bravery firsthand.
“Thank you, Emma, for your courage and compassion. You are a true community hero!” said police on Facebook.
