Snow Squall Warning In Effect For Kawartha Lakes And Peterborough

KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Snow Squall Warning for Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough.

Snow Squall Warning in effect for:

  • Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes,
  • Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes
  • Peterborough County

Lake effect snow squalls are expected with locally heavy snowfall with accumulations from 25 up to 40 cm. Poor visibility at times in heavy snow and blowing snow beginning this morning into Friday morning.

The highest snowfall accumulations are expected over areas southeast and just south of Lake Simcoe. Due to the nature of lake effect snow, some areas may see little to no snow accumulations. Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Road closures are possible.

If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
