Transport Canada Investigating Plane Crash In Trent Lakes

PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough County OPP and emergency crews responded to a report of a plane that had crashed into Catchecoma Lake earlier this morning.

At approximately 9:05am the Peterborough County OPP received a call reporting a plane had just crashed into Catchecoma Lake in the Municipality of Trent Lakes. Police along with Fire and EMS made their way to a local marina located off County Road 507 where the two occupants of the plane had been brought.

Witnesses stated that they observed the plane coming in for a landing but upon contacting the water, the plane flipped. Observers went to where the plane had gone into the water and were able to bring both pilot and passenger safely to shore. There were no injuries reported.

The plane sank into over 100 feet of water and a local marina has been contacted to help facilitate the recovery of the plane.

Notifications have been made to both Transport Canada as well as the Ministry of the Environment (MOE).
