Fenelon Township Public School Construction Team Wins Provincial Gold Medal

KAWARTHA LAKES-The Fenelon Township Public School grade 8 construction team won big at the provincial championship recently.

On May 1-2 the Ontario Skills Competition was held at the Toronto Congress Centre. This competition is a unique opportunity for top students to demonstrate that they are the best of the best in their field competing in a variety of challenges in the skilled trades.

The grade 8 construction team from Fenelon Township Public School qualified for this event by placing first at the TLDSB qualifier event on April 17th held at IE Weldon. The team was required to build a scale model of a modest house using only materials provided and the tools allowed by competition rules. The team was judged on certain criteria which included quality, teamwork, creativity and demonstration of construction techniques.

After a grueling 5 hours and 45 minutes the team from Fenelon Township Public School was victorious, winning the provincial gold medal.

The team members; Carson Bradley, Ethan Gibson, Liam Doidge, and Payton Moody said that the competition was “fun and stressful, but they loved the opportunity to go to Toronto and compete against other school boards,”

Teacher Susan Janke led the team to victory.

Congratulations to all!
