Whitby Man Apprehended At Duck Lake RV Resort In Kirkfield Charged With First Degree Murder

KAWARTHA LAKES-A 41-year-old suspect was arrested overnight in Kirkfield after a stabbing in Whitby that claimed the life of a 44-year-old man.

Members of Central West Division responded to a call on Regatta Crescent in Whitby for a stabbing call on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at approximately 3:36 pm.

Police say they found the male victim with life-threatening injuries. The male was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he was later pronounced dead as a result of the injuries he sustained.

According to police the suspect fled in a vehicle but was later located at Duck Lake trailer park in Kirkfield. Residents were told to stay inside and lock their doors. The campground was locked down for hours. With the assistance of Air1 and members of the Ontario Provincial Police, the suspect was arrested without incident.

Forensic investigators were called to the scene to gather evidence.

41-year-old Zachary Gibson of Whitby has been charged with First Degree Murder.

This is the 10th homicide in Durham Region.
