Concerned Citizen Stops Vehicle Driving Erratically-Driver Charged With Impaired

TRENT LAKES-Police say a concerned citizen somehow managed to stop an erratic driver until police arrived and laid impaired driving charges.

Peterborough County Detachment OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint on Lakehurst Road at approximately 2:30pm yesterday afternoon. The complainant reported that they observed a vehicle driving erratically and were concerned that the driver was impaired. The complainant was able to safely stop the vehicle according to police.

36-year-old Andrew Lamont of the Municipality of Trent Lakes, was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration-80 plus

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on August 17, 2022.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
