OPP Investigating Drowning In Somerville Township

KAWARTHA LAKES-City of Kawartha Lakes OPP is investigating after a Scarborough man drowned in Burnt River Saturday night.

Police say officers received a call last evening at approximately 7:30 pm after a male who had been swimming and failed to resurface.

Police responded to the location, where the male was located and transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as Kingston Ferdinands, 56 years-of-age of Scarborough.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.

The OPP provided the following steps to help reduce provincial drowning deaths.

  • always swim with a buddy
  • let someone know when and where you’re going for a swim
  • test the waters with your feet, don’t dive right in
  • don’t swim while under the influence of alcohol / drugs
