Special Air Quality Statement Issued For Southern Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough Area

KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement.

Special air quality statement in effect for:

  • Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
  • Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County

Officials say hot and humid weather conditions are creating elevated pollution levels. A special air quality statement is in place due to high levels of air pollution. Hot and sunny conditions have resulted in increasing ground-level ozone concentrations in the above regions. High-risk AQHI values are expected to persist for a few hours this afternoon.

Higher pollution levels are expected to persist this afternoon through this evening.

Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

Be air aware! Check your local weather forecasts and alerts so you know when to take extra care.

Visit www.airhealth.ca for information on how to reduce your health risk and your personal contribution to pollution levels, as well as for current and forecast AQHI values.
