KAWARTHA LAKES-A wicked storm blew into Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough this afternoon, downing trees and power lines along the way.
Thousands of people are without power from Bobcaygeon to Dunsford and Peterborough. Officials say it could be days before power is restored. Officials with Hydro One told Kawartha 411 News 32,000 customers are without power in Peterborough and the Kawarthas alone and almost 229,000 customers in total across Ontario.
“We are excepting this to be a multi-day event and the restoration is being assessed and we are asking people to be patient while crews get out there and start to restore power.” Tiziana Baccega, Hydro One told Kawartha 411.
Peterborough County OPP are asking the residents of Peterborough County to stay off the roads to allow for cleanup after the storm. Many road closures are in place due to downed trees and power lines according to police.
Witnesses say they a tornado touched down in the Lakefield area.

In Lindsay, live hydro wires reportedly fell on a vehicle with a man trapped inside.
