Kawartha Lakes Fire Crews Battle Three Blazes This Afternoon

KAWARTHA LAKES-Emergency crews were kept busy fighting three fires this afternoon.

A barn was completely destroyed by fire on River Road. Crews from six halls responded to the call at approximately 2:00 pm. Fire officials say no livestock was in the barn at the time. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and kept it from spreading to a nearby house and shed.

The fire appears to be accidental according to District Chief, Dave Kish. Kish says the owner had moved a piece of equipment and when he went back to put air in a tire the machine was on fire.

No one was injured.

Meanwhile, crews were battling a grass fire at the Pinery on the rail trail near Kinmount. Crews were on the scene for about 1.5 hours and quickly had the fire knocked down according to Kish.

Firefighters responded to the third fire on Woodville Road around 4:30 pm. It’s unclear at this time how much grass burned. Crews have cleared the scene.
