KAWARTHA LAKES-Ward 3 Councillor Doug Elmslie has announced he is running for Mayor of the City of Kawartha Lakes.
“I am very excited by this prospect and look forward to engaging with you during the course of the campaign.” said Elmslie. “The intention of my campaign is to improve the services that comprise our Public Services. The key areas of concern are: waste management, roads and infrastructure, and the landfill crisis. It is also time that we prioritize the completion of our secondary plans, so that our housing targets can be achieved. We will continue the downtown improvements in our urban areas, and while focusing on these issues, we will also strengthen our collaboration with our citizen and volunteer groups to help them achieve their goals.”
Elmslie is the second person to announce their intention to run for Mayor. Previously Jason Ward a local lawyer announced he was running but later withdrew from the race.
Elmslie says he will look to streamline and improve turnaround times for planning, permitting, and building inspections which has been an issue for some residents.
“We must make our organization more flexible and adaptive to respond to our ever-changing world, including the climate and environmental challenges we face, and the recovery from the past two years of COVID and the associated restrictions.”
