KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha Haliburton Victim Services has provided the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP, Haliburton Highlands OPP, and Kawartha Lakes Police Service with supplies for almost 100 child victim interviews.
One child interviewing kit was provided to each of our catchment area Police services (Kawartha Lakes OPP, Haliburton Highland OPP, and Kawartha Lakes Police Services) and each kit will support the next 30 interviews.
The donation was made with the financial assistance of Co-operators Willock Insurance Group.
“When a young person has experienced abuse, the disclosure process can be frightening, confusing and overwhelming; both for the child and their family members. Victim Services is here to help with that experience while providing trauma-informed support from beginning to end.” said Whitney Patrick, Victim Services. “By having access to child interviewing kits, these tools will assist front line officers and members of the Crime Unit which will better support children through their disclosure process, and beyond.”
Kawartha/Haliburton Victim Service (KHVS) works in collaboration with emergency services to provide immediate emotional and practical support to victims of crime and tragic circumstances. They are available to the police immediately, on-site, or over the telephone 24/7.
Services are available to anyone of any age or gender identity living in Kawartha Lakes, Minden, and Haliburton, who identifies being a victim/survivor of crime.
“We respect that many victims are not interested in reporting crimes to police, or need support in doing so. We are here to help.” states the website.
CKL OPP, HH OPP and KLPS have all been provided with the following as part of the Child Interview Kits:
- Child interview table and chairs
- VS colouring book and crayons
- Plush toys
- Fidget/Anxiety aids
- Stickers
- Books
