Unvaccinated Staff At Ross Memorial Hospital Terminated On March 31

KAWARTHA LAKES-An undisclosed number of staff at Ross Memorial Hospital (RMH) were terminated on March 31 for not being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

“Ross Memorial and our staff have a duty to provide the safest environment possible for everyone who enters our hospital, including the most vulnerable.  Vaccinations help to reduce the likelihood of severe COVID-19 disease and/or outcomes and help to minimize the impact on healthcare system capacity.” Ryan Young, Communications RMH told Kawartha 411 News.

Ross Memorial Hospital instituted its COVID-19 Immunization Program on September 7, 2021. The policy required all staff and new hires, except those with valid medical exemptions, to be fully vaccinated by November 1, 2021. Officials say those who failed to do so were placed on a leave of absence at that time. Those who remained unvaccinated by March 31, 2022 were removed from their leave of absence and contracts were terminated according to Young.

Healthcare workers in Ontario’s hospitals are already required to show evidence of immunity for certain communicable diseases such as measles, rubella, varicella, tuberculosis, etc. Ross Memorial feels confidently that the COVID-19 vaccine should be treated the same.” Young said.

The hospital would not disclose how many staff members have been terminated in relation to the hospital’s COVID-19 Immunization Policy.
