Woodchip Wednesdays Are Back Starting April 6

KAWARTHA LAKES-Woodchip and compost material are once again available at the Lindsay Ops Landfill. Residents can visit the landfill on Wednesdays between the hours of 8am and 4pm to pick up the materials. Please be advised that regular landfill services are closed at the Lindsay Ops Landfill on Wednesdays during summer hours.

All material that residents load by hand is available free of charge. Any material that is loaded for a resident with landfill equipment using a loader into your truck will be subject to a fee of $100 per tonne. Quantities may be limited per person, and all giveaways are only available while supplies last.

What are the materials made from?

The materials available are from recycled leaf and yard waste collected throughout the year.

Wood Chips

The brush material (branches) collected are separated, then chipped by a contracted wood chipper. Woodchips are a great resource for gardens because they can add nutrients to your soil, provide moisture retention for your plants and suppress weeds.

Compost

The leaf and yard material collected is monitored, turned and sampled by City staff as per Ontario Regulations. It’s a labour-intensive process that takes a minimum of seven months to complete. The composted material holds a nutritious soil additive and can help your gardens by providing organic matter as well as improving drainage.
