Snowfall Warning Issued For Kawartha Lakes And Peterborough, Special Weather Statement Still In Effect

KAWARTHA LAKES-A snowfall warning has been issued for Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • Apsley – Woodview – Northern Peterborough County
  • Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes
  • Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
  • Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County

Snowfall with total amounts of 10 to 20 cm is expected with snow, at times heavy, Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. Total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm possible with reduced visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow. Icy and slippery surfaces.

A low pressure system is expected to track northeast across Lake Erie and Lake Ontario Thursday night which will bring a messy mix of wintry precipitation to southern Ontario. Precipitation will begin as rain this evening and transition to snow Thursday afternoon. The snow is expected to end early Friday morning.

As the track of the low pressure system remains uncertain, precipitation timing and amounts may change.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.” officials said.

A Special Weather Statment has been issued with rain, 15 to 25 mm, this evening through Thursday afternoon with icy and slippery surfaces.
