Driver Charged After Allegedly Fleeing Crash

PETERBOROUGH-A 26-year-old Selwyn resident is facing charges after a motor vehicle collision in Bridgenorth at approximately 4:00pm yesterday afternoon.

Police say the complainant reported that they were involved in a minor collision at the intersection of Ward Street and Bridge Road and the other vehicle had fled the scene. The suspect vehicle was located a short while later in the ditch on the 12th Line. The driver was not injured but an impaired by drug investigation was initiated.

Gaybryelle Hood (age 26) of Selwyn Township, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

• Failure to stop after accident

• Operate a motor vehicle on a highway-no insurance

• Permit use of plate not authorized for vehicle

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
