Police Looking For Handgun Stolen From North Kawartha Home

KAWARTHA LAKES-On August 1, 2021 at approximately 6:45pm, members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate the theft of a handgun from a residence in North Kawartha Township. The suspect has been arrested and charged but the handgun is still outstanding.

The missing handgun is a High Standard .22LR calibre revolver bearing serial number M005866.

26 year old Michael Coppins  of North Kawartha Township was arrested and charged with:

• Theft under $5000

• Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on September 7, 2021.

Investigators are actively looking for information that may lead to the recovery of the handgun.
