KAWARTHA LAKES-The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit has declared a Coronavirus outbreak at the Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay.
“The ministry can confirm that the Central East Correctional Centre has two active inmate cases of COVID-19 and two COVID-positive cases among staff.” Andrew Morrison Media Relations, Ministry of the Solicitor General told Kawartha 411.
Over the last number of months, the ministry has made important operational changes across all provincial correctional facilities:
- Â Testing all newly admitted inmates, with their consent
- Â Housing all newly admitted inmates in a separate area from the general population for 14 days
- Â Masks provided to inmates, if required
- Â Providing personal protective equipment for all staff
- Â Requiring all staff and visitors to always wear masks
- Â Requiring temperature checks for staff and visitors
- Â Working with local public health units to test inmates and staff as appropriate.
- Â Increased cleaning measures
“Protecting the health and safety of correctional services staff and those in provincial custody is the ministry’s top priority.” said Morrison.
The health unit is reporting 19 new cases of Coronavirus in the City of Kawartha Lakes today. Another 9 cases were reported over the weekend.
There’s currently 53 active cases of the virus in Kawartha Lakes with the health unit tracking 68 high risk contacts. There has been 425 cases of Coronavirus locally to date. 41 people have died.
