KAWARTHA LAKES-The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit is reporting 15 new cases of Coronavirus in the City of Kawartha Lakes today. 10 of those are at Caressant Care on Mclaughlin Road in Lindsay.
Caressant Care Nursing Home on Mclaughlin now has had 46 positive cases of the virus with 44 still active. 23 Staff and 21 residents are infected according to officials. Two residents who previously tested positive are now considered “resolved” and are recovering. An outbreak was declared on January 9th after one case was found at the facility. Some staff have been moved to the Days Inn in Lindsay.
“During an outbreak we always offer staff the option of staying in a hotel rather than going home to help stop the spread.” Stuart Oakley, Communications, Caressant Care told Kawartha 411.
The second Caressant Care location on Mary Street W in Lindsay has also had an outbreak declared on January 23 after one staff member tested positive. Officials say the staff member is at home in isolation.
There is now 68 active cases of the virus in Kawartha Lakes with the health unit tracking 74 high risk contacts. One person is in hospital. 3 more people have died bringing the total number of deaths to date to 39.
