KAWARTHA LAKES-There are three new cases of Coronavirus at Caressant Care on McLaughlin Road in Lindsay today according to the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health (HKPR)Unit.
20 cases are residents and 16 cases are staff. Of the 10 new cases reported in Kawartha Lakes today, the health unit says two of them are related to the long term care home.
The health unit declared an outbreak at the facility on January 9th.
“The HKPR Health Unit and staff from Caressant Care have been meeting daily and the home has implemented all of the stringent outbreak prevention measures required to help stop the spread of the virus.” Chandra Tremblay, HKPR told Kawartha 411 News.
COVID testing is taking place approximately every five days. Officials say there has not been any testing conducted for the COVID-19 Variant of Concern (VOC) that is thought to have come from the UK and spreads more easily. Based on guidance from Public Health Ontario, there are criteria for testing for the VOC and this outbreak does not meet those criteria at this time according to Tremblay.
“Even without the testing, the facility has implemented stringent infection prevention and control measures.” Tremblay says.
