Boys and Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes unable to accept kids with runny nose due to Coronavirus concerns

KAWARTHA LAKES-The Boys and Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes says they have been notified by the Health Unit that they cannot accept kids with common cold/flu symptoms.

Officials say with the colder weather they are starting to see an increase of illness at the centre.

“Since COVID-19 and the common cold/flu present with similar symptoms, we have been informed by public health that we are unable to accept your child in program until they are 24 hours symptom free, even if it’s a runny nose. This applies even with a negative COVID-19 test result.” said a letter sent to parents.

The same 24-hour rule applies for our staff experiencing symptoms.

“We are all in this together and are striving to do the best we can within the guidelines set by both public health and the Ministry of Education.” says the club.

The Boys and Girls Club operates kids summer camps and before and after school childcare throughout Kawartha Lakes.

There are no known active cases of Coronavirus in Kawartha Lakes at this time. 178 people in Kawartha Lakes tested positive for the virus since the pandemic began. 32 people lost their lives.
