Police say nothing nefarious about “suspicious” white van in Thurstonia area on Friday

KAWARTHA LAKES-The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP say there was nothing nefarious going on when photos were taken by someone in a white van near Thurstonia Park.

It happened on Friday August 7th. Some young children playing in the park noticed someone in a white van that appeared to be taking photos of the kids. The kids told their parents who called police. The OPP says they investigated and found nothing suspicious had taken place.

“The City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the City of Kawartha Lakes Municipality has investigated the matter and no children were photographed in the pictures taken at Thurstonia area park on Friday August 7, 2020.” PC Jackie Hildenbrand told Kawartha 411 News. “The CKL Municipal Law Enforcement Officer was in the area investigating a complaint and the photos were taken to address that concern.”

There have been other reports of a white van with someone suspicious in the region. One report out of Peterborough where police investigated but also found no foul play. There was another similar report in the Omemee area.
