Kawartha Lakes #3 on list of hot cottage real estate markets

KAWARTHA LAKES-THE Kawartha Lakes is #3 in Ontario for hot cottage real estate markets.

The list is from Cottage Life Magazine. They interviewed three top real estate agents who said the pandemic is driving people away from city living and into cottage country.  As a result, demand is higher, sale prices are skyrocketing, and properties are being snapped up quickly according to the article.

According to the author Kawartha Lakes is popular because people don’t want to go up Highway 400, especially with the 407 coming here now and they think it’s easier to drive to the Kawartha’s. But there is a scarcity of listings in the Kawarthas.

Residential home sales recorded through the MLS® system for the Kawartha Lakes Real Estate Association Inc. totaled 183 units in June 2020 according to the Kawartha Lakes Real Estate Association. This was up 9.6% from June 2019.

On a year-to-date basis, home sales totalled 611 units over the first six months of the year. This was down 8.4% from the same period in 2019.

There were 261 new residential listings in June 2020. This was down 6.8% on a year-over-year basis.

Active residential listings numbered 339 units at the end of June. This was a large decline of 42.3% from the end of June 2019. Overall supply is still well below average levels.

The Muskoka’s are the top spot for those looking to escape the city and Haliburton Highlands is the second most popular.
