Five false positive Coronavirus tests reported at hospital Dialysis Unit

KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha 411 News has learned that there were five people in the Dialysis Unit at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay who were given false positive Coronavirus test results.

All other patients in the Dialysis Unit were told to get tested as a result of the believed positive results and received a phone call yesterday notifying them of the error in the results.

“I can confirm that is accurate.  We received notification that 5 patients had tested positive after routine surveillance testing in Dialysis. The tests were processed by the lab in Kingston. Later, the Kingston lab contacted us to share that there had been an error and that the tests were in fact, negative.” Amanda Carvalho, Communications at Ross Memorial Hospital told Kawartha 411.

This isn’t the first time there has been false positives associated with the testing.

A technical lab error resulted in the rejection of positive COVID-19 test results from 13 people in in the City of Kawartha Lakes in May.

The 13 local specimens were among 94 tests that were rejected by BioTest Laboratories in Ottawa after a technical error was discovered by the lab.
