KAWARTHA LAKES-86 year old Betty Jukes has survived lung cancer, neck cancer, dementia and C. Difficile. Now she can add Coronavirus to the list.
“When they told me she had Coronavirus I thought, she’s done, I thought we would never see her again.” Betty’s daughter, Kimberly Tully told Kawartha 411 News.
Jukes has been at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay since April 1st. Tully says her mom went to the hospital after falling at home. She was diagnosed with Coronavirus about a week after being admitted.
“She was on oxygen and they were feeding her with a syringe because she wouldn’t eat.” Tully says. “We were Facetiming her and she did not look good.”
Tully says she would Facetime her mom every day with the help of the nurses. Over the last few days Jukes began to improve. Tully says she knew her mom was going to be ok after her spunk returned during one of those Facetime visits.
“She said to me, oh hi Kim, I miss you! You are getting a little fat.” Tully says with a laugh.
She even got to meet her new great grandaughter during a virtual visit.

Jukes is now up and walking around the hospital with the help of a walker. The results of her second Coronavirus test came back negative today. Tully hopes to bring her mom home on Sunday.

“She’s been through so much and now she’s getting to come home, she’s beaten all the odds. I am so excited.” Tully exclaimed.
