KAWARTHA LAKES-Alex Tobin loved animals but was afraid of spiders, he loved to ride his new snowmobile and he loved his family.
“Alex was an amazing man, he loved his family and friends a lot.” his mom, Amy Rogers told Kawartha 411 News. “My son would do anything for anyone.”
Tobin was shot and killed in an apartment on King Street in Omemee on Tuesday afternoon. Two residents of Bethany were allegedly caught in Pontypool after fleeing the scene and are now facing charges. They are both facing charges of second degree murder.
Rogers says her son was a also a hard worker.
“He worked at Boston pizza for over 2 years and worked really hard at his job. He also did co-op at Trent Pet in the Lindsay mall.”
Alex went to IE Weldon Secondary school in Lindsay and he was a big brother to to 2 younger brothers. “He loved his brothers a lot. He also had a amazing girlfriend who he had been with for over 2 years who was by his side when this happened.” Rogers says.
Police have not said what prompted the shooting but Rogers says something needs to be done about this type of violence.
“I hate the violence that cause my sons death, we need to stop this violence as a country. Crime happens everywhere we just don’t hear about it in smaller towns.”
The town is reeling from the loss. Councillor Ron Ashmore says something has to be done. “This is unacceptable. The criminals have the upper hand and people are so vulnerable here. This violence is spreading to our small towns and it has to stop.”
A Go Fund Me campaign has been set up to help the family with final expenses. https://www.gofundme.com/f/loss-of-a-young-man-alex-tobin?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1&fbclid=IwAR12wJWTZ6rfF4R-iZPuKb9Xd9JWwzl8SQ8cpzYiz0HCww6V-FFtNiMaF7E
