OPP investigating shooting in Omemee

KAWARTHA LAKES-A number of OPP officers and emergency medical services descended on Omemee this afternoon after reports of a shooting on King Street.

It happened at approximately 1:15 this afternoon. Police arrived and quickly taped off the area.

Kawartha Lakes Paramedic Services transported the victim to an area hospital where he  succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Alexander Tobin of Omemee, Ontario.

Responding OPP members were provided with descriptors of the suspects and quickly located and arrested them. Both accused are residents of the Toronto area and remain in custody as the investigation remains ongoing under the direction of the OPP’s Criminal Investigation

Two local elementary schools were place on Hold and Secure as a precaution. Scott Young Public School and Lady Eaton Elementary School are currently in a hold and secure with exterior doors locked and classroom routines and lessons continue. Students were not permitted outside while the hold and secure was in place. The hold and secure was lifted just before 3pm.

This is the second time today the schools have been placed on hold and secure. This morning students reported hearing gunshots prompting the move by police. That hold and secure was lifted a few hours later. Police say those reports were unfounded.
Police told Kawartha 411 the two incidents are not related.
