New Flashfood app helps divert food from landfill and save you money on groceries

KAWARTHA LAKES-49 billion worth of food is lost or wasted across the country each year.  That’s enough to feed every Canadian for five months.

However a new App a looking to reverse this trend and help local shoppers save money at the same time. It’s called the Flashfood App and it allows consumers to purchase products that are nearing their best-before date at a steeply discounted price. With just one click meat, produce and dry food items that would otherwise go to waste are available for pick-up for up to 50% off. Locally the Real Canadian Superstore in Peterborough and Loblaws in Lindsay have teamed up with Flashfood.
