KAWARTHA LAKES-The 157 year old Lindsay jail has a long and storied past. From public hangings to housing some of Canada’s worst offenders such as Paul Bernardo, there’s a lot of history there. The jail opened in 1863 and was a fully operational jail until 2003. In 2011 it re-opened as the Olde Gaol Museum, preserving not only the history of the jail but the history of Kawartha Lakes. Over the past year dedicated volunteers have worked hard to refurbish the facility and breathe some new life into it. It’s paying off.
