KAWARTHA LAKES-An old couch that caught fire in the garage of a home in Little Britain on Sunday caused $55,000 in damage according to Kawartha Lakes Fire and Rescue.
Deputy Chief Ron Raymer says crews were called to the home on Salem Road at approximately 4:30 and were quick to respond. There were no injuries and fire crews were taken care of with lots of hydration and more frequent rest periods as the humidex lingered in the mid 30’s.
Damage is pegged at $40,000 to the building and $15,000 to the contents.
Raymer says it’s unclear what caused the couch to burst into flames but it may have been the sun shining on it through a nearby window.
