Second trial date set for convicted child sex offender living in the Coboconk area

KAWARTHA LAKES-A convicted child sex offender living in the Coboconk area will go on trial  beginning on February 24th, 2020 to answer to additional sex related charges.

63 year old Jeffrey Cairns made a court appearance in St Catharines on Wednesday. He is facing three additional counts of sexual assault and three additional counts of sexual interference.

Cairns was sentenced to four years behind bars on June 26th yet he remains free, out on bail. Cairns was also ordered to provide a DNA sample, was put on the Sex Offender Regsitry and is prohibited from owning weapons for ten years according to court documents obtained by Kawartha 411 News.

Immediately following the sentencing Cairns lawyer filed an appeal and Carins remains out on bail while the appeal of the sentence works it’s way through the courts.

In December 2018 Cairns was found guilty of three sex-related offences dating back to 2010. The victim was 14 years old at the time. According to the Niagara Falls Review the victim testified that the defendant, whom he had considered to be like a second father, started groping and fondling him. He said the incidents escalated to include masturbation and oral sex according to the Review.
