Some residents forced to evacuate homes as waters rise on area rivers

KAWARTHA LAKES:Some residents living on the Burnt River near the village of Burnt River say they had to evacuate their home as the flood waters closed in on them.

Tracy MacLennan lives about 6km from the town of Burnt River and evacuated today. “We’ve only been here for our 3rd flood season and this is so crazy ! I didn’t want to leave our cottage only to hope for the best” MacLennan told Kawartha 411.  “I hope we don’t get the rain they’re calling for today !!

Kerri Midwinter Debnam also saw a dramatic rise on the Burnt River overnight.

Environment Canada issued a Rainfall Warning for Kawartha Lakes on Thursday with up to 65mm of rain possible.

Residents are encouraged to stay away from fast moving streams and waterways.
