Acting Chief of Kawartha Lakes Paramedics fired

KAWARTHA LAKES-Acting Kawartha Lakes Paramedic Chief Derek Brown has been fired by the City.

The City says effective April 2, 2019 “Acting Paramedic Chief Derek Brown’s employment with the City of Kawartha Lakes has been terminated with cause. An internal investigation of alleged financial irregularities and breach of trust led the City to contact the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service.”

A police investigation is underway. Kawartha Lakes Police told Kawartha 411 they were notified of the situation on Friday March 29th.

In 2017 Brown was on the Sunshine List of the provinces highest paid, public sector employees making almost $128,000 a year.

Andrew Rafton will take over as acting chief. Recruitment is proceeding for the position of Paramedics Chief.

Long time Chief Keith Kirkpatrick retired in January after being at the helm since 2011. Brown was named Acting Chief shortly after.
