Busy weekend for Kawartha Lakes OPP

KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha Lakes OPP were kept busy this weekend with crashes and alcohol related offences.

On January 6, 2019 an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Pigeon Lake Road. The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the driver for an alcohol related offence.

Police say upon arrival on scene, the officer observed a vehicle in the ditch and was able to locate the driver nearby. The officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. As a result of the investigation, Kyle Mulligan, 29 years of age, of Omemee, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Fail to report accident, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Fail to remain, contrary to the HTA
  • Drive motor vehicle, no validation on plate, contrary to the HTA

Two separate vehicle stops conducted by the OPP resulted in the drivers being charged with a cannabis related offence.

A local male faces two driving related charges after entering a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program.

On January 7, 2019 officers established a RIDE program on Pigeon Lake Road. An officer approached a vehicle as it entered the RIDE program and the ensuing investigation resulted in the driver, John Smith, 56 years of age, being charged with two offences:

  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Fail to surrender insurance card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance ActA vehicle stop conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) resulted in the driver, a local male, being charged with multiple offences.

     

     

On January 7, 2019 an OPP officer observed a vehicle on Angeline Street South being operated without proper headlights. The officer stopped the vehicle and the ensuing investigation lead to the driver, Anthony Jakiwchuk, 39 years of age, being charged with the following Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences:

  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the HTA
  • Drive motor vehicle without proper headlights, contrary to section 62(1) of the HTA
