KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha Lakes OPP were kept busy on the roads over the holiday.
On December 24th officers established a RIDE check program on Northline Road. As a vehicle entered the area an officer approached and the ensuing investigation resulted in the driver, Jack Perneroski, 58 years of age, being charged with the offence of driving a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available contrary to section 12 (1) of the Cannabis Control Act. The officer seized 18 grams of cannabis.
Also on December 24th a vehicle stop resulted in the local driver, Shannon Madill, 34 years of age, being charged with the offence of driving with a suspended licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA). The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on February 5, 2019.
A separate vehicle stop resulted in the local driver, Charles King, 53 years of age, being charged with the following driving related offences:
- Drive motor vehicle, no permit contrary to the HTA
- Fail to surrender insurance card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Officers later responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 35 near John Street. There were no serious injuries reported. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Godwin Boyce, 37 years of age, was charged with the following HTA offences:
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
- Careless driving
On December 25, 2018 officers responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 35 in Bexley Township. No injuries were reported. Theresa Pendrith, 73 years of age, was charged with failing to stop at a red light, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
