KAWARTHA LAKES-Local MP Jamie Schmale is encouraging employers to apply for summer help through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program. The CSJ application period is now open and applicants have until January 25, 2019 to submit.
“I encourage local small businesses, and organizations to apply for funding. This program can benefit both employers and youth looking to gain experience,” said Schmale. “Last summer, $703,722 was received in Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock and dispersed to over 93 different employers for a total of 209 youth jobs.”
CSJ provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees. Newly expanded eligibility criteria now includes all youth aged 15-30, and is no longer restricted to students.
This year, the Liberal government is changing the controversial attestation that was introduced for CSJ 2018.
“While I am pleased to see the removal of the attestation, it does not remove the eligibility requirement that was put into effect last summer,” stated Schmale. “Public servants will assess applications and determine whether employers meet Trudeau’s values test criteria in order to receive funding.”
