First customers hooked-up to natural gas in Fenelon Falls

KAWARTHA LAKES-Phil and Barb Dewsnap have been dreaming of this day for ten years. The owners of Sweet Dreams Bed and Breakfast are the first customers to be hooked-up to natural gas in Fenelon Falls. Enbridge arrived at 365 County Rd 121 to flip the switch this afternoon and we were there to capture it.

Last May the project received $12.3 million from the province to bring the expansion to Fenelon Falls.

Bobcaygeon was missing from the announcement. Enbridge had originally planned to extend the pipeline all the way to Bobcaygeon, servicing more than 3800 homes there. Enbridge told Kawartha 411 that only the Fenelon Falls, Cambray and Cameron expansion were given provincial funding under the 2017 Natural Gas Grant Program but they are still working on bringing it to Bobcaygeon. “Enbridge continues to support Bobcaygeon’s pursuit of natural gas to reduce energy costs, improve comfort and enhance reliability.” Akilah Dressekie said. “We will continue to advocate for additional grant funding or regulatory change which could make the project feasible.”
