Bank employees thwart alleged scammer

KAWARTHA LAKES-Employees at the TD Bank in Bethany shut town an alleged scammer after becoming suspicious about his behaviour.

Police say on November 28th Kawartha Lakes OPP received a call from  the TD bank in Bethany after employees at the bank became suspicious when an unknown male requested that his PIN (Personal Identification Number) be changed.

Further investigation indicated that the male was allegedly in possession of a fraudulent document, but the officer was able to identify the suspect.  On November 29, 2018, the officer located the suspect and as a result of the investigation Shaun Pitre, 40 years of age, of Brampton was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Use forged document
  • Theft, under $5 000
  • Fraud, under $5 000
  • Personation, with intent (Identity Fraud)
