Beaches closed in Bracebridge after sharp objects found

KAWARTHA LAKES-The Town of Bracebridge has temporarily closed Kirby’s Beach and Bracebridge Bay Beach Park due to potential for sharp objects in the sand, both in the water and on the beach.

This comes after broken glass, sewing needles and nails were allegedly found on the beach and in the water.

“Volunteer divers from Scuba Shack based out of Gravenhurst, ON will be conducting an underwater investigation and cleanup over the Victoria Day holiday weekend.” said a release from the Town.  Town staff will review the findings of the investigation to determine whether additional cleanup work is required during the week of May 22-25, 2018.

The Town continues to work with the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) to determine the source of materials.

A few weeks ago some beaches in Muskoka area were found to be “contaminated” and were closed. A letter, alleged to be from the Islamic Liberation Force, was later sent to a local newspaper claiming responsibility and warning of more incidents to come.
