Closure of Lady Eaton Elementary School deferred

KAWARTHA LAKES-Lady Eaton Elemenetary School in Omemee has been given a one year reprieve from closure.

An Accommodation Review of Lady Eaton Elementary School was done by the Trillium Lakelands District School Board during the course of the 2016-2017 school year. In April of 2017, trustees voted to close Lady Eaton Elementary School at the end of the 2017-2018 school year and students would transfer to Scott Young Public School at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.

Due to what the board is calling “timeline challenges,” construction of a four-classroom, purpose-built junior kindergarten addition as well as a three-room 58 space childcare addition, the move must be delayed.

Officials say they are waiting on funding announcements in early 2018 so trustees have agreed that the closure of Lady Eaton Elementary School will be deferred to the end of the 2018-2019 school year and that students transfer to Scott Young Public School at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.
