Extreme intoxication likely cause of crash – Police

PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough County OPP say extreme intoxication was the likely cause of a crash Tuesday night.

Police and emergency crews were called to assist at a single vehicle collision on Peterborough County Road 4, near the Seventh Line of Douro shortly after 5:00pm.

The 44 year-old male driver, from Peterborough, Ontario was found to be extremely intoxicated according to officers. Breath tests revealed the male’s blood alcohol concentration was allegedly nearly five times the legal limit.

No one was injured in the collision.

The driver, who police did not name,  has been charged with Impaired driving and Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.

The Peterborough County OPP is reminding motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol use a designated driver, utilized a cab or public transit or stay overnight. “Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.”
