KAWARTHA LAKES-A 42-year-old Lindsay man was arrested without incident after a 7-hour stand-off with police which closed off a portion of King Street in Lindsay yesterday.
It began at approximately 8:00 am on Monday, October 9th, 2017 when the man allegedly went to a Cambridge Street South residence and assaulted and threatened two of the residents of the home.
Police say the man was known to the occupants of the home but fled prior to police arriving. At 10:30 am on Monday a Kawartha Lakes Police officer went to a King Street residence after receiving information that the wanted man may be there. Police say the man was there but refused to leave the home and indicated that he would only harm someone if Police advanced on the home.
Police began a negotiation with the man who they say indicated that he had manufactured a chemical bomb that he was prepared to use if police entered the home. This caused the evacuation of a number of nearby homes on King Street. Police continued to negotiate with the man while obtaining a warrant to enter the home and arrest him.
After almost 7 hours of negotiation, the man surrendered to police at 5:43 pm.
Matthew Jefrey Cork has been charged with two counts of Assault and one count of Threatening Death. He was detained in custody and will appear in the Lindsay, Ontario Court of Justice for a bail hearing on Tuesday, October 10th, 2017.
