United Way Kawartha Lakes kicks off new campaign

KAWARTHA LAKES-The United Way for Kawartha Lakes Campaign is off to a good start raising almost $52,000 in donations this morning.

The Kick-off of the 50th anniversary event was held at Smitty’s Restaurant in Lindsay. In a Facebook post officials said” Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this day a big success! OEYC City of Kawartha Lakes & Haliburton County; Graham and Castle Keep Retirement Inc., Crayola, Nexicom, BMO Bank of Montreal Lindsay Branch, The Three Chairs Committee, Pat O’Reilly, Jamie Schmale, Laurie Scott and Kendal Balfour!”

The campaign is called the Community Champions Campaign and it’s aimed at helping more than 30,000 people in the City who use the agencies services. An event held last May with Col. Chris Hadfield raised more than $44,000 and Nexicom pledged $3000.

The next fundraiser is coming up on September 30th when they are hosting a Bubble Soccer Tournament at the LCVI Sports Field.
