KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada is warning area residents about conditions that might become favourable for funnel clouds later today. (September 7th)

Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and early evening across Southern Ontario. Some of the thunderstorms will bring dime sized hail, wind gusts to 70 km/h and frequent lightning. Environment Canada says funnel clouds may also make a brief appearance this afternoon in this unseasonably cool and unstable air mass.

The warning is in effect for Apsley – Woodview – Northern Peterborough County,Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes,Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County.

Thunderstorms are expected to dissipate this evening.

Officials say you should treat any funnel cloud sighting seriously. Should a funnel cloud develop nearby, prepare to take shelter. These funnel clouds usually appear with little or no warning.

The weather advisory was cancelled just after 11pm.
