Bobcaygeon man charged with sexual assault in Cobourg

KAWARTHA LAKES-A Bobcaygeon man is facing charges in a sexual assault case in Cobourg.

The alleged sexual assault happened outside a business in the west end of Cobourg on July 4th at approximately 9pm. it was reported that a woman was inside her car in a parking lot and was approached by a man she believed to be in his 50s and then allegedly assaulted. The male left the area in a van, after the assault. He had a small white dog in his vehicle.

The woman was not physically injured.

Police released a photo of the suspect in the case and a few days later 63 year old Gary Vaters of Bobcaygeon was charged. He is facing one count of sexual assault.

Police are reminding residents to be aware of their surroundings and park in well lit spaces.
