PETERBOROUGH-Emergency Services were called to the scene of a serious T-bone collision involving a freight train and an SUV carrying 4 passengers shortly before 6pm Tuesday night. The collision occurred at a train crossing on Asphodel 3rd Line south of Dummer-Asphodel Rd sending the SUV rolling down a steep ditch.

According to police the SUV was travelling northbound on the Third Line when it failed to stop at an uncontrolled railway crossing and collided with an eastbound freight train.

The four occupants of the vehicle were transported to an area hospital. The injuries sustained in the collision ranged from serious (not life threatening) to minor according to police.

Witnesses say Ornge was called in and landed in a nearby field to transport one patient to a trauma centre.

Police wish to remind motorists to come to a complete stop at uncontrolled railway crossings and to only proceed when the crossing is clear.
