PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough Police have made an arrest in a stabbing in the area of Stewart St and McDonnel St shortly before 6pm.

53-year-old Edwin John Hughes of Stewart Street, was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault.

Paramedics responded to a call at the intersection and discovered a male had been stabbed in the abdominal area. As paramedics were treating the male police taped off the area.

Witnesses say paramedics responded to a call at the intersection and discovered a male had been stabbed in the abdominal area. As paramedics were treating the male police taped off a nearby house on Stewart St. Paramedics transported the male to PRHC, it is not known the severity of the wounds. I will update the story when I know more.

The victim was listed in stable condition at Peterborough Regional Health Centre and was subsequently taken to a Toronto-area hospital for surgery.
